Here at Positive, we love a good podcast – and there are certainly lots around! Every week seems to bring new names and recommendations, so in honour of the launch of The Resilient Road: Series 2, we thought we’d do a round-up of our top 10 picks for 2021. Enjoy!

What is it?
Author and research professor Brené Brown speaks to ‘change-catalysts, culture-shifters and more than a few troublemakers’ to explore how we can all become better leaders.
Why do we like it?
Being a leader can be really difficult – and being a good leader is harder still. This podcast combines science with some fascinating conversations to provide practical lessons we can all benefit from.
2. The Happiness Lab with Dr Laurie Santos
What is it?
Yale professor Dr Laurie Santos shares scientific research and inspiring stories to make you reconsider the way you think about happiness.
Why do we like it?
Happiness is a concept we’re all familiar with, and yet there’s an awful lot we still don’t know about it. This series is brilliant for filling in the gaps and challenging some of the most common misconceptions.
3. All In The Mind from ABC Radio
What is it?
An exploration of ‘the mental universe’ covering all sorts of topics linked to the mind, brain and behaviour.
Why do we like it?
The science is interesting and accessible and a huge range of subjects are covered. There are new episodes each week, too, so there’s plenty of content to browse if you’re new to the show.
4. WorkLife with Adam Grant
What is it?
Organisational psychologist Adam Grant speaks to some of the best-known professionals to try to answer the question, ‘How do you make work “not suck”?’
Why do we like it?
Work forms a huge part of life for many of us, and yet all too often people get little enjoyment or satisfaction from what they do. This podcast offers a wonderfully refreshing look at the world of work, exploring some of the problems that exist together with possible solutions.
5. Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown
What is it?
Neuroscientist Mayim Bialik (also known as Amy from The Big Bang Theory) breaks down some of the most common myths and false beliefs around mental health and wellbeing.
Why do we like it?
It’s not always easy to balance informative with entertaining, but Mayim does it brilliantly. Science, conversation and a nice helping of humour make this a great listen.
6. The High Performance Podcast
What is it?
Sports broadcaster Jake Humphrey and organisational psychologist Professor Damian Hughes speak to high-performing individuals from a range of industries to find out how they got to the top, and what we can learn from them.
Why do we like it?
It can often feel like people at the top of their game are superhuman – that they’re a completely different species – but everyone started somewhere. This podcast offers an insight into the reality behind the remarkable, with lessons that can help us all.
7. Feel Better, Live More with Dr Rangan Chatterjee
What is it?
GP Dr Chatterjee speaks to a range of health experts and other notable figures with the aim of simplifying health and helping people to feel their best.
Why do we like it?
We all know that health is important, but working out who or what to believe can be hard! This podcast covers all sorts of topics relating to both mental and physical health, with good robust science and practical tips too.
8. PsychCrunch from The British Psychological Society
What is it?
A range of guests and presenters explore themes from psychology, with a particular focus on research and how the findings can make a difference in everyday life.
Why do we like it?
It’s science made accessible, with relevant topics and plenty of food for thought.
9. Made of Stronger Stuff
What is it?
Psychologist Kimberley Wilson and Dr Xand van Tulleken explore the fascinating relationship between our bodies and the environment.
Why do we like it?
We all have bodies and we all have to cope with them changing. This podcast offers some interesting and empowering insights into the factors that contribute to the process.

What is it?
